How could I forget....

Forgot to write what happened the other night.  On Tuesday afternoon, Ryan was having his 'snack' of pureed banana mixed with his formula.  He was loving it, and actually taking sips from his cup.  When he was done, he was happy, smiling, and laughing. Being a mom of a kid with reflux (and any baby, really) I knew that laughing with a full stomach can cause them to throw up.  BUT, feeding has been so riduculously hard, that I thought, hey - let the kid laugh a little.  Well... the pre-puke cough came, I got the cloth ready to catch it... and it came.  However- his feeding tube came up with it. (A new tube had just been inserted on Friday... so it was BRAND new. And we'd just changed the tapes).  It was stuck in the back of his throat, so he couldn't catch his breath, so we quickly but gently had to pull the tapes off so we could pull it out of his nose.  (probably hard to imagine when you can't see it).  The process to get a new tube is a PITA (how well do you know your acronyms?). We have plan a, b, and c.  Unfortunately a and b can only be executed between 9 -5 at Southlake or North York General.  For this incident we had to execute plan c which is going to Sick Kids emergency.  Someone qualified needs to reinsert the tube, then it needs an x ray to show that it's properly placed. It was a 5 hour process and today I'm hearing more coughs and sneezes from the wee man.  Our experience at Sick Kids was as good as it could be, until the nurse asked us to wait in a 'general waiting room'.  My response was immediately, "we don't wait with people."  She looked at me quizzically and asked why not.  Does a nurse at Sick Kids really need an explanation!?  I gave her my top 10 reasons why Ryan doesn't wait with public, and she promptly moved the 12 year old girl from our old room into the general waiting room.  I hope my neurotic behaviour will pay off and we can keep him healthy!
We work so hard to 'protect the tube' by making sure it's always taped properly, that he's not pulling at it, and that it doesn't get stuck somewhere before we pick him up.  Never considered it would come out with puke. (he has spit up multiple times before, the banana puree must've just been thick enough to carry it up the pipe).  Ha ha, sorry for the gross factor, but it's reality.  Sadie was fascinated by the whole ordeal, and it even prompted her to want to learn what 'puke' is in french.  (it's vomir, according to Tante Em). So that's that.  Looking forward to saying farewell good riddance to the tube one day....
p.s.  each tube costs $20 and you can only get them from Sick Kids - so when he goes through 3 tubes in a month, it is also a financial PITA.
