Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all the mom's out there but especially to my mom who has been doing double-duty over the last few weeks.... make that 2.5 years (since we had Sadie).  She's the definition of super-mom, that's for sure.  There is nothing I can give her or make her to show her how much we appreciate what she's done for us.  (Also, she'd get mad at me for going out to get her something when I should be resting; and she'd get mad at me for spending money on her instead of buying something for the kids or myself).  All I can do right now is say THANK YOU MOM over and over again.

We had a very unique mother's day.  No brunch, no flowers just family time.  Which is totally fine - we took Sadie downtown to see Ryan, and mom and dad came down to see him and to take Sadie home for her nap so that Scott and I could stay with Ryan for a bit.  (again, super parents to the rescue)

He has had a couple of good days.  When that happens, I get a pit in my stomach because I know a setback is looming.  That doesn't sound very positive, but it is reality with these preemies.  It somewhat came true today, but thankfully nothing serious.  When he has good days, they always seem to decide to fiddle with his ventilator settings.  He's not always a fan of that so he was "up and down" today and got more attention from the docs and respiratory therapists (RTs).  We left around 2 after he had a chest x-ray, our phones have been quiet, which means there is nothing major to report.  Kathy has him tonight so I'll sleep a little easier.  There are so many nurses in the NICU that there are days when he has a nurse who hasn't looked after him yet (that happened today).  Sometimes that accounts for the not-so-good reports because the nurses who know him know that he tends to get fussy in certain positions, he doesn't like to have a wet diaper, and he definitely doesn't like to be bothered.  Hmmmm...

After our hospital visit it was back to my parent's house for dinner and more Sadie time. Now, sleep.

I wonder what next Mother's Day will be like....

  1. So nice you had a complete Family Mother's Day with Ryan. Glad to hear Baby Ryan is getting stronger and has good days. Great to hear that Ryan is showing his new nurses what his likes and dislikes are so they will soon know who is boss.lol Thank goodness for NICU nurses.
    Always Love, Lynn
